How to Play 2048: The Viral Number Sliding Puzzle Guide
Welcome to PuzzleVerse’s Free 2048 Game, the iconic number-sliding puzzle created by Gabriele Cirulli that captivated the world. Simple to learn yet notoriously challenging to master, 2048 challenges you to merge matching tiles on a 4x4 grid until you create the legendary 2048 tile.
How to Play 2048
When you start a new game, the 4×4 board begins with two random tiles (each containing either a 2 or a 4):
- Slide the Tiles: Use your keyboard Arrow keys (or WASD), touch swipe gestures on mobile, or on-screen directional buttons. All tiles slide as far as possible in the chosen direction.
- Merge Identical Numbers: When two tiles with the same number collide during a slide, they merge into a single tile displaying their sum (e.g.,
2 + 2 = 4,4 + 4 = 8,1024 + 1024 = 2048). - New Tile Appears: After every valid move, a new tile (a 2 with 90% probability, or a 4 with 10% probability) spawns in a random empty space.
- Win Condition: You win the game when you successfully create a tile showing the number 2048! You can continue playing past 2048 to chase 4096 or an all-time high score.
- Game Over: The game ends if the grid is completely filled and no adjacent tiles can be merged.
The "Corner Strategy" to Win Every Game
- Pick One Corner and Stay There: Choose a single corner (bottom-left or bottom-right is popular) and never move your highest tile out of that corner.
- Build a Descending Snake: Keep your largest numbers lined up along the bottom wall in descending order (e.g., 512, 256, 128, 64).
- Avoid Swiping Up: If your highest number is in the bottom row, try to NEVER swipe Up. Swiping Up shifts your big numbers into the center and allows low numbers (2s and 4s) to trap them from behind.
